Greenwood singing duo South Six 5 and Indianapolis’ Ali Orebaugh took home top honors today at the Indiana State Fair’s first-ever Vocal Throwdown competition. South Six 5, comprised of Jacob Bates and Andrew Butcher, beat out four other finalists in the Youth Division for ages 6 to 15. Orebaugh defeated five other finalists to win the Junior Division for ages 16 to 21.
South Six 5 performed an original song entitled “Every Second of the Day.”
The Vocal Throwdown attracted 164 young singers from around the state who had their audition videos voted on by the public. Last Saturday, a panel of three judges whittled down the top 10 as voted by the public. Another three-judge panel decided the finals today. Here are the final results in both divisions:
Youth Division (ages 6-15):
1st Place Jacob Bates, 13, and Andrew Butcher, 13, Greenwood
2nd Place Melina DeGolver, 13, Pittsboro
3rd Place Maria Sarah Lysandrou, 14, Bloomington
4th Place Carly Brooke Lancaster, 11, Beech Grove
5th Place Haley Foreman, 15, Greenfield
Junior Division (ages 16-21):
1st Place Ali Orebaugh, 17, Indianapolis
2nd Place Olivia & Alona Meek, 18, Mooresville
3rd Place Brooke Poeppel, 21, Indianapolis
4th Place Arielle Adams, 21, Indianapolis
5th Place Alyssa Noble, 19, Bluffton
6th Place Kashi Wallace, 16, Fishers
The winners in each division received $500 and a trophy. Second place finishers received $250; third place finishers received $100.
