NEWTON & JASPER COUNTIES, Ind. — Overnight left lane closures will take place on northbound and southbound I-65 along the bridge over Norfolk-Southern Railroad at mile marker 233.3, approximately 1-mile south of the Kankakee River in Newton County from approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 13 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 14 while crews set barrier walls along the median shoulders for bridge painting operations. The inside shoulders will be closed for approximately three weeks while this work is taking place, and overnight lane closures will be used to remove the barrier walls when work is completed.
The right lanes of northbound and southbound I-65 will be closed between State Road 14 and State Road 10 from approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 13 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 14. Crews will be removing barrier walls set along the outside shoulders.
A culvert pipe lining project on I-65 at mile marker 208 that was set to begin Sunday, July 18 has been moved up to Wednesday, July 14 due to materials being received sooner than expected. This project will begin with overnight right lane closures in both directions from approximately 9 p.m. July 14 to 6 a.m. July 15 between mile marker 207-209 to install barrier walls along the outside shoulders to protect the work zone from traffic. The outside shoulders will remain closed through the duration of the pipe lining project, which will take approximately two and a half weeks. Overnight lane closures will be used to remove the barrier walls when work is completed.
Work is weather-dependent and subject to change. INDOT urges drivers to stay alert near crews and follow traffic directions carefully. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when driving through this area. Drivers should slow down and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
