PORTER COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane closures for I-94 eastbound and westbound beginning Sunday, July 18. Restrictions will be ongoing for a bridge deck overlay and bridge painting project on the I-94 bridge over Jensen Drive and Salt Creek.
Two lanes of eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed between U.S. 20 (Portage) and U.S. 20 (Burns Harbor) from approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, July 18 to 6 a.m. Monday, July 19. Lane closures will alternate so motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns in the area. These lane closures will be in place to configure traffic for phase one work.
The left lane of eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed between State Road 249 to State Road 149 from Sunday, July 18 to Friday, July 23. The purpose of the single left lane closures are for the construction of thin overlays on bridge decks and other miscellaneous bridge work.
Two lanes of eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed again in this area from approximately 8 p.m. Thursday, July 22 to 6 a.m. Friday, July 23. Lane closures will alternate to remove portions of the phase one maintenance of traffic setup.
Bridge deck overlays and bridge painting operations are protective treatments done to extend the life of a bridge deck and bridge structures. INDOT urges drivers to stay alert near crews and follow traffic directions carefully. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time when driving through this area and should slow down and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
