The 15th annual Jason D. Kuhn Memorial Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course, located in northern Rush County. Tee time is 12:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 11 a.m. This year will once again feature a community hog roast sponsored by Avery Dennison immediately following the announcement of the tournament winners.
Members of the general public who aren’t interested in golfing but are interested in attending and helping the cause are welcome and encouraged to attend the hog roast and make a donation.
Profits from this year’s tournament will, again, be donated to the Sheehan Cancer Care Center at Rush Memorial Hospital (RMH) in Rushville. Last year’s tournament generated over $5,000 for the cancer center.
To date, the tournament has raised nearly $100,000 since its June 1999 inception, and the proceeds have been used to endow Jason Kuhn Memorial Scholarships at Franklin College ($50,000). One scholarship, endowed for the life of the college, is awarded to an advertising/public relations major; and the other, also endowed for the life of the college, is awarded to a member of Franklin’s Kappa Delta Rho fraternity of which Jason was a member. Proceeds from the 2003 tournament, the first after the scholarships became fully endowed, were donated to the American Cancer Society (more than $4,000). The proceeds from 2004-2013 have, or will, all been donated to the Sheehan Cancer Care Center located at Rush Memorial Hospital, amassing a total of more than $45,000. The tournament cofounders’ have a goal and commitment to the Sheehan Cancer Care Center of $50,000.
Reservations for the golf scramble may be made by calling Horseshoe Bend Golf Course at (765) 345-5242 or by downloading a reservation form from the official golf scramble Web site at www.kuhngolf.blogspot.com. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
