CARMEL, Ind. – The State of Indiana last week awarded more than $200 million in matching funds to 245 cities, towns, and counties for local road projects through Community Crossings, a partnership between the Indiana Department of Transportation and Hoosier communities. The City of Carmel received $1.2 million for improvements on Main Street between Illinois Street and Guilford Road.

Main Street from Illinois Street to Old Meridian Street will be resurfaced and the stretch of Main from Old Meridian Street to Guilford Road will be reconstructed. This includes new storm drainage, replacement of aging roadside ditches, and the addition of new ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the Community Crossing Grant,” said Engineering Director Bradley Pease. “These funds are vital for not only improving our roads, but also for ensuring accessibility for all residents.”

The City was also awarded $980K in Federal Highway Administration Highway Safety Improvement Program funds to upgrade the crosswalks at the roundabouts at Hazel Dell Parkway and Main Street and 116th Street and Range Line Road. The addition of raised crosswalks at these intersections is part of a larger initiative that will enhance safety and accessibility throughout the city.
