Drivers traveling through downtown Indianapolis should prepare for significant travel delays this coming weekend. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures on I-70 to accommodate necessary pavement repairs.
Traffic Impact Summary
The following restrictions are scheduled to begin Friday, June 12, at 9 p.m. and remain in effect through Monday, June 15, at 5 a.m.:
- Lane Reductions: I-70 eastbound will be reduced to two lanes between Belmont Avenue and Madison Avenue.
- Nightly Traffic: Expect brief periods of single-lane traffic between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. each night during the weekend.
- Entrance Ramp Closures: Access to I-70 eastbound from Harding Street, Missouri Street/West Street, and Madison Avenue will be closed.
- Exit Ramp Closures: I-70 eastbound exits to Harding Street (Exit 78), Missouri Street/West Street (Exit 79A), and Illinois Street/Meridian Street (Exit 79B) will be closed.
Looking Ahead
This weekend’s work is part of a broader maintenance schedule for June. Motorists should be aware that further significant closures for both eastbound and westbound I-70 are planned for the weekend of June 19–22.
INDOT advises all motorists to slow down, remain alert for workers, and avoid distractions while navigating the construction zones. All construction schedules remain weather-dependent and subject to change.
