Beech Grove, IN – A 12 year old is in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained after being shot while riding in the back seat of a vehicle on I-465. The shooting stemmed from a road rage incident in which detectives believe two drivers fired shots toward one another’s vehicle while driving on I-465. The driver of the vehicle occupied by the injured child was one of the two people who detectives believe fired shots.
May 2, 2025 at approximately 1:35 p.m. first responders were dispatched to a crash on Emerson Avenue at the ramp from I-465 westbound. Upon arrival, Beech Grove Police Officers found two vehicles with damage from the crash. Inside a black Honda SUV was a 12 year old child that had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. There was also what appeared to be multiple bullet holes in the rear driver’s side door of the black SUV. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The second vehicle involved in the crash was not involved in the road rage incident, they were on Emerson Avenue.
The 12 year old was rushed to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Also inside the black SUV was an infant who was not injured but was transported to a hospital as a precaution.
A short time after the crash, officers from IMPD and Troopers from ISP located the other vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting on I-465, which also had multiple bullet holes. The vehicle was abandoned, however officers located who they believe to be the driver at a residence nearby.
Indiana State Police Detectives have spoken to all the people involved and the investigation is ongoing at this time. Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to collect evidence and photograph the scene.
