Vigo County – On March 6, 2025, at approximately 10:20 a.m., an individual was walking their dog in northern Terre Haute near Tuttle Drive, when they observed a body lying next to a creek bed. Troopers of the Putnamville Post responded to the scene and upon their arrival discovered a deceased female. Detectives from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation.
The Vigo County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the deceased female as Melissa Kernstein, age 57, of Terre Haute, Indiana. The family has been notified.
Investigating Officers: Indiana State Police Master Trooper Detective Don Curtis, assisted by troopers Brian Thomas, Brad Fyfe, Sergeant Tim Rader, Sergeant Michael Organ, and First Sergeant Brian Maudlin.
The Indiana State Police assures that there is no threat to the public. This is an active investigation. There is no further information to be released at this time.
