ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – INDOT announces the closure of State Road 13 for bridge work being completed by the Indiana Toll Road.

Starting on or after June 9, a contractor for the Indiana Toll Road will be working on the S.R. 13 bridge over the toll road. Work on the project is expected to be complete in mid-September. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

During the closure, drivers should use the official detour of State Road 120, State Road 15, Michigan State Road 103, and U.S. 12, or seek an alternate route. Local traffic will have access to County Road 4 from S.R. 13.

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a temporary road closure on U.S. 150 near Marion Heights in Vigo County. 

Beginning on or after Monday, June 9, crews will repair the concrete underneath the U.S. 150 railroad bridge. Construction is anticipated to last a few weeks, but is weather-dependent and subject to change. The official detour around the closure follows U.S. 150 to Pennington Road to S.R. 63 to U.S. 40 to U.S. 150. 

INDOT encourages drivers to seek an alternate route and to use caution while traveling in and around work zones.

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces single-lane closures on State Road 63 northbound and southbound, located north of Terre Haute.

Beginning on or after Wednesday, March 19, crews will begin alternating lane closures on S.R. 63 between Sanford Road and Bolton Road. The closures will allow for crews to safely perform a slide correction. Work is expected to last through August but is weather-dependent and subject to change.

INDOT encourages drivers to use caution while traveling through all work zones.

The Vigo County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the deceased female as Melissa Kernstein, age 57, of Terre Haute, Indiana. The family has been notified.

Investigating Officers: Indiana State Police Master Trooper Detective Don Curtis, assisted by troopers Brian Thomas, Brad Fyfe, Sergeant Tim Rader, Sergeant Michael Organ, and First Sergeant Brian Maudlin.

The Indiana State Police assures that there is no threat to the public. This is an active investigation. There is no further information to be released at this time.

The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper Brian Thomas revealed that Garrick Busenbark, age 19, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was driving a 2013 KIA southbound on State Road 63 near Durkees Ferry Road. According to witnesses, Busenbark was traveling at a high rate of speed and, for an unknown reason, his vehicle left the roadway. Upon leaving the roadway, the car rolled onto the driver’s side and slid for approximately 20 feet, eventually stopping.

Garrick was transported to a hospital in Indianapolis via Lifeline.

Trooper Thomas was assisted at the crash scene by Vigo County Deputies, the Fayette Volunteer Fire Department, the Indiana State University Police Department, Trans Care, Lifeline IU, and Jake’s Wrecker Service.
