This morning’s winter storm created hazardous driving conditions across Kalamazoo County, resulting in multiple vehicle accidents and slide-offs, especially on our highways.

At approximately 8:30 AM, first responders were assisting at the scene of an accident on eastbound I-94 near the 80.5-mile marker in Comstock Township when a semi-truck jackknifed, overturned and struck a Comstock Fire apparatus and a Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident.

We urge everyone to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary during severe winter weather. If you must be on the road, please use extreme caution, reduce your speed, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Your safety—and the safety of first responders—depends on it.

A heartfelt thank you to all the first responders who worked diligently in these challenging conditions this morning. Your service to our community is deeply appreciated.

Stay safe, Kalamazoo County!

Sheriff Rick Fuller
