Troopers deployed K-9 units during the patrol, which was designed to identify impaired drivers, aggressive driving behaviors, criminal activity, and ensure compliance among commercial motor vehicles. Officers also provided assistance to motorists experiencing difficulties on the roadways.

The focused enforcement resulted in a significant number of citations and arrests. A total of 57 traffic citations were issued alongside 146 warnings. Indiana State Police troopers made 15 criminal arrests, including one for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). Four K-9 unit searches led to the arrest of an individual on methamphetamine-related charges.

Beyond enforcement actions, troopers assisted 25 stranded motorists and conducted six commercial motor vehicle inspections, with one vehicle deemed unsafe and taken out of service.

“Directed patrols such as this allow troopers to focus resources where they can have the greatest impact on public safety,” stated a spokesperson for the Indiana State Police. The department emphasized its commitment to proactive enforcement strategies.

Motorists are reminded to adhere to all traffic laws, avoid impaired driving, and remain vigilant while navigating work zones and high-traffic areas. The Indiana State Police Pendleton District plans to continue these targeted patrols throughout the coming month.

Wayne County, Ind. (May 5, 2025) – Work continues on the Revive I-70 corridor in Wayne County this week, including relocating an overhead sign on eastbound I-70 near U.S. 40.

Drivers can expect the following:

Monday, May 5

• Short (20-minute) rolling slowdowns on eastbound I-70 from U.S. 27 to U.S. 40 (around midnight)
• One lane of eastbound I-70 closed from mile marker 155 to westbound U.S. 40/Exit 156A (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
• Ramp from eastbound I-70 to westbound U.S. 40/Exit 156A closed (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)

Tuesday, May 6 through Friday, May 9

• Eastbound I-70 shoulder closures near mile marker 155 (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

Wednesday, May 7

• One lane of westbound I-70 closed from U.S. 27 to Clear Creek bridge (8 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
  • Rolling slowdown may be needed to move equipment (around 1 a.m.)

All closures and restrictions are weather dependent.

Delays Anticipated

Necessary traffic restrictions will cause delays on I-70. Drivers should plan ahead and use alternate routes, when possible.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. – In late March, construction activities will resume to add travel lanes on Interstate 70 between Mt. Comfort Road and one mile east of State Road 9 in Hancock County.

On or after Monday, March 24, westbound traffic on I-70 will shift to eastbound lanes between Mt. Comfort and Greenfield (MM 100 to MM 105). The I-70 entrance and exit ramps at S.R. 9 (Exit 104) will also close at that time.

• S.R. 9 ramp to I-70 WB closed for approximately 70 days, through early June
  • Official detour: I-70 EB to S.R. 109 (Exit 115) to I-70 WB
• I-70 WB ramp to S.R. 9 closed for approximately 90 days, through late June
  • Official detour: I-70 WB to Mt. Comfort Rd. (Exit 96) to I-70 EB to S.R. 9

The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph throughout the work zone. Construction is anticipated to be complete in October, weather permitting.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near construction zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

Shoulder strengthening work on the Revive I-70 corridor in Wayne County is expected to begin this week and last the next several weeks. The work is expected to begin overnight Tuesday, March 11. One lane of westbound I-70 is scheduled to close from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday, between U.S. 27 and west of the U.S. 35 interchange.

A single-lane restriction on eastbound I-70 from Round Barn Road to just east of U.S. 27 is expected overnight Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 14 through March 16). The ramp from northbound U.S. 35 to eastbound I-70 and the ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound U.S. 35 will also close during work in the area.

Crews will mill the existing shoulder and add new asphalt to strengthen the pavement to accommodate traffic during construction. Traffic will utilize part of the outside shoulder to maintain two lanes of traffic for most of the construction and give crews the necessary room to build new lanes of I-70. The additional travel lanes will be built using the existing inside shoulder.

The outside shoulder will be strengthened from west of U.S. 35 to the Ohio state line. The work from Round Barn Road to just east of U.S. 27 is expected to last about three weeks. Work will then shift to between U.S. 27 and the Ohio state line.

The remainder of the work will be completed during the overnight hours, and short-term single-lane restrictions will move with the location of work. Short-term ramp closures will also be needed.

Revive I-70 includes improvements to I-70 in Wayne County from west of Cambridge City to the Indiana/Ohio state line. The corridor is more than 20 miles long, and improvements are divided into three contracts for project delivery.
