Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) released the following statement regarding the vote on H.R. 1968, the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2025:

While this bill is not perfect, I voted for this Continuing Resolution (CR) because it freezes spending levels, prevents a costly shutdown, and ensures critical programs and services such as Medicare, Social Security, and Veterans’ benefits can continue without disruption. This CR provides Congress and President Trump with a path to focus on delivering real results for Hoosier families, including historic tax cuts, securing our borders, and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in our federal agencies. House Democrats are playing absurd political games and voted to shut down the government to thwart the President’s successful America First agenda. House Republicans are unlocking the ability to make lasting changes to Washington, D.C. so that the government works for the American people, not the other way around.

We The People Are Being Ignored

It seems that We The People have a better understanding of what’s going on than the politicians do.

The current U.S. government Continuing Resolution spending bill is filled with pork. And molasses.

On page 25 (of 1,547) we have THREE MILLION DOLLARS earmarked for molasses inspections.

…the Secretary shall use $3,000,000 to carry out regular testing for the purposes of verifying and validating the methodology and protocols of the inspection of molasses at any United States ports of entry, including whether the molasses meets each statutory requirement without the use of additives or blending, relevant definitional explanatory notes, and each property typical of molasses in the United States as directed in Senate Report 118–193.

We could be wrong, but molasses testing by the Federal Government probably isn’t vital to keeping the country running, which is what a Continuing Resolution bill is supposed to address.
